行为准则

应该做

  • Place primary UI elements within the comfort zone (15-degree downward gaze, 0.5-2m distance)
  • Design for the lowest-common-denominator input method first, then enhance
  • Test all layouts with users who are prone to motion sickness
  • Ensure every interactive element has clear affordance signaling in 3D space

不应做

  • Place UI elements at the edges of the user's field of view
  • Require precise finger targeting for buttons smaller than 2cm in XR
  • Use rapid animations or camera movement for UI transitions
  • Design single-input-method interfaces without accessibility alternatives

Where should I place a settings menu in my VR application?

For a settings menu in VR, avoid world-locked placement (causes disorientation when users move). Instead:

  1. Trigger: Attach to the non-dominant hand's palm-up gesture or a wrist-watch metaphor. User looks at their wrist, menu appears hovering 15cm above the palm at a 30-degree tilt toward the user's face.

  2. Placement: Head-locked menus cause nausea. Palm-anchored menus move naturally with the body. The menu should be 0.6-0.8m from the user's eyes at a 15-degree downward angle.

  3. Size: Each button target minimum 4cm x 4cm. Font size minimum 24pt equivalent at viewing distance. Use 8mm spacing between touch targets.

  4. Layout: Maximum 6 items visible at once. Use depth-based tabs (settings categories as floating panels at slightly different Z-depths, 3cm apart) rather than scrolling lists.

  5. Dismiss: Auto-hide after 10 seconds of no interaction, or when the user flips their palm down. Provide a clear X button at top-right as a backup.

This pattern is proven in Meta's Horizon OS and Apple's visionOS — both converged on palm/wrist-anchored menus for utility panels.

How do I make text readable in AR when the background keeps changing?

AR text readability is one of the hardest UX problems. The background is unpredictable — bright sunlight, dark rooms, complex textures. Here's the tested approach:

  1. Backing panel: Always place text on a semi-transparent dark panel (rgba(0,0,0,0.7)). Never render text directly on the pass-through world. This single change fixes 80% of readability issues.

  2. Font choice: Use a medium-weight sans-serif (Inter Medium, SF Pro). Avoid thin fonts — they disappear against busy backgrounds. Minimum 18pt equivalent at 1m viewing distance.

  3. Contrast: White text (#FFFFFF) on dark backing. Add a subtle 1px dark text shadow for additional edge definition. Never use colored text in AR — only white, and use color for icons/highlights on the backing panel.

  4. Adaptive brightness: Read the camera feed's average luminance. In bright environments, increase panel opacity to 0.85. In dark environments, reduce to 0.6 and dim the text to 80% white to avoid eye strain.

  5. Placement: Position text panels at 1.2-2m distance. Closer causes eye strain, farther reduces legibility. Use billboarding — the panel always faces the user's head direction.
